Day 2 at Beimen Elementary School

This morning the school had a special programme for the students to experience what is it like to be physically disabled. One of which is to walk through some obstacles without bursting the balloon beneath the soles of their shoes.

The students invited me to sit in for their music lesson. Their melodious voice and enthusiastic spirit touched me especially when they were singing 天下的妈妈都是一样的. This song made me think of my family back home especially my mum... I felt sorry that I can't spend this mothers' day with her but I still love her very much as always. <3
My dearest family <3
Every wednesday and friday, I would conduct some activities in English for the students during their break time. Today being my first trial, I taught them how to sing 'The wheels on the bus". I'm sure many of us would have heard this song in our childhood days. The students were very excited and it was quite hard to settle them down. Thankfully with the help of the other teachers, the student calmed down a bit. I was really thankful that the teachers gave me some suggestions to make the session more fun for the kids. I hope the kids enjoyed themselves.

王老师 was very kind and she brought me to 台南市 to explore the area. We went to 台南艺术大学(Tainan National University of the Arts) and I must say that culture and the arts is quite significant in the lives of Taiwanese. At least it is quite recognised here and there is a greater industry for it as compared to Singapore. The school is huge and very conducive for students to study in.

Then, we went to 星光三月百货 which is a 14 storeys shopping mall. Can you imagine how big is that? Takashimaya which is in Singapore, has only 8 storeys。
Matcha Ice cream from the shopping mall
Ice Skating Rink
Spiderman!
3D painting!
After all the window shopping and photo taking, we went to Tainan Municipal Culture Centre (台南市文化中心)to watch an opera which has a little bit of acting as well. But it is not a musical with dance and hype. It is about the life of a very famous musician-江文也. He composed many wonderful pieces but during the Great Revolution in the 1966 but was violated of his rights to publish his songs. When he regained his freedom in 1978, he suffered from poor health and stroke. His passion for music did not stop him from writing his last piece《阿里山的歌声》before his death. He passed away in October 24th, 1983 in Tokyo. This opera show requires a bit of background knowledge before you can understand it. More info can be found here. http://taiwanpedia.culture.tw/web/content?ID=9203
The opera we watched!
After watching this show, I felt like I have just attended a history class. Can't wait for tomorrow as I'll be visiting Taipei 101!
