Journey to Gaoxiong (高雄)-Formosa Boulevard 美丽岛, Pier 2 驳二, Xiziwan 西子湾, Cijin 旗津 and Night markets 夜市

My host's daughter was very nice to bring me to Gaoxiong. We took bus to the Tainan train station which took about an hour. Then, transferred to a train to Gaoxiong station which took about half an hour. After which, we took metro(捷运)to visit Formosa Boulevard station which is a station well known for the colourful art piece on the ceiling. I couldn't figure out exactly what is the art piece about. But the colours light up the station and your attention would naturally be drawn to the ceiling. In fact, there are many art pieces on display at almost every metro station.

Then we continued our journey to Xiziwan and rented a bike for NT$50 for the whole day. The bike rental shop is located right outside the metro station. Our first stop was The Banana Pier. There was nothing much to see there except some bananas and old artefacts on display. Hence, we only spent about 10 minutes there.

There were much more to see at the Pier 2 Art Center. The indoor art exhibits require admission tickets whereas those outdoors are free of charge. Pier 2 Art Center is actually a street that has many art warehouses lined alongside the street. It is a good place to relax and take many pretty photos. You can spend about 1.5 hours there.

There's a drink stall nearby that sells the bottled marble drink.
I don't know what is the actual name but it taste quite nice.

I was pretty amazed that the chain is able to stay in this upright position
without any support. I wonder what they use to keep it like that.

saw these two horses strolling garcefully across the street while we
were taking photos. I think the person on the horse is a policeman. haha

After exploring Pier 2, we cycled to a dessert shop nearby. I was overwhelmed by the number of desserts they offered. We were so spoilt for choice..
Both sides of the menu are like this
In the end we settled for this shave ice with fruits. There are
watermelon, peach, pineapple, guava and green mangoes. It was
really refreshing after cycling under the hot sun the whole day.
We continued our journey towards Cijin Island (旗津) which is opposite of Xizi Bay  (西子湾). We had to take a ferry to get there and it costs NT$15. You can actually ride your bicycle and motorcycle on board the ferry. I was somewhat worried that I would get burnt by the hot engines as most of the motorcyclists still had their engines on when going on board the ferry. Moreover, they were all eager to board the ferry. But it was an exciting experience for me.

The rocks are so huge that they are out on the pavements.

Upon reaching Cijin, we had a light seafood lunch since there were only two of us. There are many seafood restaurants along this street which sells fresh and tasty seafood.

We ordered prawn balls with salad sauce and octobus balls.
You can dip the octobus balls with the salt and pepper

After lunch, we headed to starlight tunnel (星光隧道) and Cijin Fort (旗津炮台). There are some constellations star signs on the ceiling of the tunnel and it is very windy as you walk through it.

The fort is behind this cliff and it is a good place to get a bird's eye view of the beach. We spent quite a lot of time here taking photos of the architecture of the fort. There was a couple who was having their wedding photoshoot there too.

Our last stop was Jin Zuan Night Market (金鑽夜市) and Kai Xuan Night Market (凯旋夜市). These two night markets are located just beside each other and there is a free shuttle bus service from Kaixuan Metro station which takes only about 5 to 7 minutes.

This ice cream looks like a little bonsai plant. The leave you see is actually
peppermint leave and you can eat it together with the ice cream. The soil-
like thing is chocolate powder and you can add toppings like cereal or
marshmallow. This taste really nice.

This looks like Satay but the taste is quite different. They seasoned it
with some spice which I can't tell what is it. But it tasted really good.

I was very tempted to try this but I didn't have enough courage. They
stall owner kept asking me to try and told me that it is really tasty hahaha.

we also tried this game whereby you have to get three balls in the
middle row to redeem a prize. Oh well.. I didn't win any. haha

This Petrol station look-alike stall sells ice cream
and they put your ice cream on the petrol bottle.
Biggest octobus ball I have ever seen.

Quail eggs seasoned with seaweed, salt and pepper.

Was really tired after a long day out. But I enjoyed myself a lot. Big thanks to my new found friend, my host's daughter, who brought me around. :)
