Journey to Liang Shan Waterfall (凉山瀑布) and Tianliao Moon World (田寮月世界)

Woke up early in the morning and was all set for our mini expedition to 上“凉山” (liang shan). haha. This waterfall is just located beside Maolin National Scenic Area. It is quite inaccessible via public transport so it is more advisable to drive there. It took about 2 hours drive from Tainan to Liang Shan waterfall.

The first layer of waterfall was only 10 minutes walk up a gentle hill from the carpark. You can take it as a warm up and start preparing yourself for the second and third layer. haha.

You will be able to see many of such signs along the way.
I guess these are used by the Aboriginal tribes-Rukai Zu
to mark their territory.

There are three layers of the waterfall and I thought the most difficult climb would be the climb to the highest layer. But I was wrong. The second layer was the most exciting for me as it required a backwards climb down a steep rock. You have to hold on tightly to two ropes by the rock and step on the naturally formed steps on the rock. I was so scared that I would miss a step and fall straight down.

There were so many of these yellow butterflies that were
flying around me and I felt like I was in a fairy cave.

As for the third layer, you have to balance yourself when you move from one rock to the other. Most of the rocks are slippery and some have sharp edges. So you have to be really careful.

Many families brought their children to swim here. The water is really refreshing and you can get a good massage on your back under the waterfall. It's a pity I didn't bring my swimsuit. There are also a wide variety of butterfly species too.

There is a visitor centre near the entrance and you can borrow these aboriginal costumes for free to take photos. There are also many brochures which will give you more information about some other attractions near the area.

After which we had something light before we headed for lunch as the dining area was quite a distance and it was already 3pm by then. There was a stall by the roadside that sells BBQ sausages and pork.  It is own by an aboriginal tribe and apparently their traditional seasoning and cooking method is what makes this tasty.

After lunch we headed to Tianliao Moon world. This place is known for its deserted nature which has terrains that look like the surface of the moon.. The weather was really good that day and we were able to capture nice photos. If you appreciate nature, you will like it there.

Appreciate Mr. Kuo for bringing me to see such scenic areas of Taiwan! :)
