Out of my comfort zone

Stepping out of my comfort zone and travelling in a whole new country alone. My first time and it is sure adventurous. Departing from Singapore to Taiwan wasn't that bad because I had a friend with me. The adventure begins upon reaching Taiwan.

My travel buddy from Singapore to Taiwan
I took bus 1961 from terminal 1 to taipei main station which costs NT$90. The journey took about 50mins and I was on a constant lookout as I was afraid that I would miss my stop.  Luckily it was the last stop.

When I reach Taipei Train station at 0800, the staff at the visitor information guided me to the ticket counter for the collection of tickets which, I have purchased online. Given that my train will depart at 0900, I had some time to look for the shop to purchase a local sim card. I kept going round and round despite directions given by the security staff. Finally at 0845, I found the shop. The sales assistant was very nice and she helped me process my application quickly knowing I was rushing for a train. At 0853, I rushed to the boarding platform. Guess what? I insert my ticket at the gantry and forget to take it upon exiting. Too used to the scanning system in Singapore. Fortunately, I manage to board the train by 0857. Due to my physical build, I had a lot of difficulty carrying my luggage up the luggage compartment. This friendly guy who sat beside me offered to help me. Moreover, he also helped me with my enquiries and offered great advice to places I should visit in Taiwan.
Lunch box which you can purchased on the train
It was quite an interesting sight as you don't get to experience this on Singapore Trains. The seats were spacious and there were staff selling souvenirs for TRA, drinks and bian dang. Upon reaching my stop 4 hours later, the nice guy helped me with my luggage again without me having to ask for help. Thankful to meet many helpful and friendly people along the way.

Upon alighting at xinying train station, I met Mr.Kuo-my host family who is also the academic director of the school. He drove me to the place where he was having a teacher sharing conference and I must say that the  teachers here really put in alot of thoughts into designing the lessons for the students. The way they plan and design the lessons to fit the values and objectives of learning is really impressive and interesting. I am sure the kids will have lots of fun.

Finally I was brought to the house which I will be staying. I was already very tired by then as I didn't sleep on the plane and didn't catch much sleep on the train too. Mr. Kuo and his wife are very nice and I think I am adapting quite well here. can't wait to visit the school tomorrow! Good night!
